The Other Side of the Story: Media from the Arab World
Al Jazeera English is vying to be heard in the Western world, but are American homes ready to welcome its voice? The case of Al Jazeera’s struggle to find a mainstream audience in the United States highlights the controversial politics of information between the U.S. and the Arab world. Many American cable companies have chosen not to air Al Jazeera, but do feature other international stations like the BBC, RAI (Italy), and Telemundo. What lies behind the resistance to add an Arab network, and what does the absence of Al Jazeera say about modern news, free speech, and global media?
Please join the GOAt audience in welcoming these experts to the Martyrs’ stage to discuss this important issue.
